Application Process

The EEILC kindly requests that all individuals or organizations who are interested in the EEILC's legal assistance complete the above application for legal services to begin the application process.
Individuals or organizations who call or email the EEILC, and who are not a prospective client or client of the EEILC, will be requested to complete the above application if they have not done so already. The Law Clinic front desk will be happy to assist you in completing this application by phone or in person if for any reason you are unable to do so on your own computer.

The EEILC typically reviews applications received between April 1 through October 1 in mid-October, and review applications received after October 1 through April 1 in mid-April. The EEILC maintains an applicant waitlist and accepts applicants as prospective clients from the waitlist unless applicants request to be removed. We regret that we are unable to provide applicants with updates on the status of any application or any further information, unless and until you are notified that your application is accepted as a prospective client of the EEILC.

The EEILC reviews all applications for fit and need, and invites selected applicants to conduct an intake with the EEILC in January and September of each year. Applicants only become prospective clients upon completing an intake interview with the EEILC, at which time each prospective client is placed on the EEILC's waitlist for representation.

Representation can begin at any time depending on when a spot in the clinic opens, after the EEILC confirms that a prospective client does not pose a conflict of interest to its current or former clients, among other considerations. Prospective clients only become clients of the EEILC upon signing a Letter of Engagement with the EEILC that sets forth the scope of work to be completed by the EEILC on behalf of the client.

Due to the volume of applications for legal assistance that the EEILC receives and the EEILC’s limited capacity, we regret that most inquiries for immediate legal assistance cannot be met. Depending on when an application is received relative to the April 1 or October 1 application review period, the typical wait time for an application to be reviewed by the EEILC can be several days or six months. Each semester, approximately 3-6 applicants are selected from all previously reviewed applications (not only applications received in the immediately preceding six months) to become a prospective client of the EEILC and conduct an intake. After conducting an intake with the EEILC and becoming a prospective client, representation can begin when a spot in the clinic opens and other conditions of representation are met. Due to the length of the application process, applicants are encouraged to consider their long-term legal services needs when requesting the EEILC's assistance.

While your application for the EEILC's legal services is pending, the EEILC welcomes applicants to attend its free programming open to the public
